Three readings
The dawn-light is 明 — clarity arriving. In the Eastern reading the glow before waking is fortune showing its edge, the first warmth of a thing about to be understood. Light entering a dark space is read as understanding entering a confusion.
Dawn is the emerging consciousness — illumination after the night-sea journey. The archetypal reading takes the light as insight arriving, the Self making itself known at the edge of waking. To move toward the light is to move toward what you already half-know.
