周公解梦 reads fish as deeply auspicious: 鱼 (yú) echoes 余, surplus, so fish mark abundance and fortune arriving. Live fish in clear water is wealth and vitality; to catch a fish, an opportunity grasped; a tank of fish, prosperity kept close.
Jung read fish as contents of the unconscious — insights, feelings, or creative material rising from the deep. To catch a fish is to bring something valuable into the light; a dead fish, an opportunity or feeling that has gone cold.
